This position coaches 4 small, rural, non-thriving communities in eastern WA through the phases of the Horizons Program, Northwest Area Foundation. The phases help community members better understand the broad scope of poverty, increase local leadership skills, and establish a local process to address local issues of poverty led locally by those who attended the leadership workshops.

Also provide the training for community members and other coaches about blogs on the blogspot platform and therefore serve as the Washington Horizons representative on the Northwest Area Foundation’s blog team. Each of the 22 Horizons communities is required to create a blog team to maintain a blog to fulfill two purposes: a free blog can provide a sustainable, online presence where a broader spectrum of the community has access to information, and secondly, Northwest Area Foundation, the funder, has feeds and pipes in place to use the blogs as one avenue of evaluation.

1998 - 2007 Extension Educator - Program Coordinator, 4-H Youth Development, Washington State University Extension Spokane WA. This position promotes and coordinates the 4-H Youth Development Program in Spokane County. The Coordinator promotes and coordinates the 4-H program and activities, recruits, screens, trains and recognizes volunteers in traditional community clubs and school-based clubs, as well as military-based clubs, and partners with other Extension programs and community organizations to provide activities and programs for youth in the county and surrounding communities.

1993 - 1996 Director, Student Leadership & Involvement (SLI). The Director recruited high school aged youth to assess the community, select a project to positively impact the community, and implement the project, working with other organizations within the community. During the three years, the group successfully accomplished all of their ideas except one. Their greatest success was taking the lead on a campaign to convince the City of Spokane to convert space under Interstate 90 into a skateboard/inline skate park. Although teens had been using the space "illegally" as a skate park, the SLI teens put a survey in the newspaper to determine if the broad community would support the skate park - the response was overwhelmingly yes. That data was used to convince the City's Parks Foundation to provide financial and community resources to the project. The skate park is a reality. Other projects included learning about the teens living on the streets and then making valentine's for those that frequented the Crosswalk facility, because few organizations remember them at Valentine's Day; creating a poster about teens and youth as valuable resources for a community that were distributed to schools and displayed during Make a Difference week, and publishing a quirky-looking newsletter about opportunities for youth to participate in decision making and service within the community.

1981 - present Co-owner, Motion Media Productions, Spokane WA. Motion Media creates film and video productions about products, programs, and services primarily for use in sales and promotion of programs, products, and services to be used in-house and to buyers and the public. Products have ranged from Walla Walla Onions to potato starch purification, from diamond drill bits to employee safety training videos, from career videos for high school students to commercials, and from community development to promotion of organizations. My position in the company is primarily writing and editing text of brochures, websites, and scripts, but am able to assist at every stage of production.

AWARDS &
